Videos: How to dress a bed

I started out in retail back in the '60's dressing windows for a large department store  that could have come straight out of the comedy programme Are You Being Served. It had nineteen huge windows. We learnt to be wonderfully creative in our studio, making amazing props from nothing more than cardboard sheets, polystyrene, a hot wire, emulsion paint and a lot of imagination. I was very fortunate in being taught by Ted Horne who was so talented and much of what I know now came originally from his brilliance. Creating stunning window displays from just a length of nylon, a staple gun and a handful of pins.  It was the best education a young woman could ever have if they  wanted to enter the world of interiors.

Some of these effects showing what can be achieved without spending a lot of money can be viewed on our old website

Much later i was asked to redesign the Al Nakheel Club restaurant for ADMA-OPCO the leading oil company in Abu Dhabi and although I'd had no formal training - amazingly when I look back on it - wasn't deterred by it.

When I got back to the UK I created displays of my quilts on the beautiful antique beds at The Antique Brass Bedstead Company in Great Baddow, Essex.  Customers saw them and asked if I would go out to their homes to dress their beautiful antique beds. It was a fascinating time and  helped me to understand their personalities and lifestyles, more importantly what would work best for them. And a few years later this experience would prove invaluable when I opened my first shop in Leigh on Sea, Essex twenty years ago.

Hopefully the two videos we made shown below will help you with some tips and advice on how to make your bedroom more beautiful, after all we spend a third of our lives there so it's important we treat ourselves.
