Malabar

Malabar

Deep within the jungle lies a secret: Malabar has been producing eco-friendly fabrics for more than twenty years, made from start to finish by hand.

The exotic and magical shores of India have inspired the creation of Malabar's handloom cottons, intricate embroideries and sumptuous silks. It is in Kerala, in a corner of the tropical monsoon lands of South India where Malabar's extraordinary cottons are crafted. Here the fabrics are produced in the most tradional of ways, dyed by hand, woven by hand and withoutt the use of machines: the fabrics are all made using all natural fibres, some of which are organic. The ethical production relies on small co-operatives, preserving the principles and skills of their forefathers.

Malabar passionately values the ancient traditions of these unique and socially accountable fabrics and share in the pride of the craftsmen who know that they alone are responsible for the look, feel and beauty of a fabric made by their own hands.

A wide range of fabrics from sumptuous hand-embroidered taffeta silk, linen, crushed velvet, magnificent crewel work, fine damask, bamboo velvet, silk organdie through to hand-loomed , hand-dyed cotton in a fabulous choice of rich, vibrant shades. swatch service available upon request
